National Powersports Dealer Association

A handful of states have dealer associations that represent the dealers in those areas. These associations do important work behind the scenes—monitoring legislation, engaging with lawmakers, and advocating for policies that protect the franchise system and the long-term health of independent dealers. In many cases, these organizations are the only line of defense against OEM overreach, restrictive regulations, or anti-dealer lobbying efforts from powerful national groups.

Unfortunately, many dealers either aren’t aware that these associations exist or don’t realize how much they rely on their support. That lack of engagement can weaken the association’s ability to speak with a unified voice, especially when legislation is being considered that could directly impact your business model.

If your state does have an active dealer association, now is the time to get involved. That means attending meetings, staying informed on policy issues, and—yes—paying your dues. Think of it like insurance: when things are going well, you may not notice the value, but when a threat shows up at the Capitol, you’ll be glad someone was there fighting for you.

If your state doesn’t have a dealer association, it might be time to start asking why—and what it would take to change that. No one knows your challenges better than you do, and waiting for someone else to step up is a good way to get left behind when policy decisions are made.

In this business, staying quiet is rarely a winning strategy. Whether it’s fighting for fair warranty reimbursement, pushing back against forced inventory, or ensuring dealer input is part of the EV rollout, your voice matters. And a well-organized state association is one of the best ways to make sure it gets heard.

Here is information I have been able to assemble on the current DAs. If any of this is wrong, please contact me and I will be happy to correct it.
