DealerNews Magazine came to life in 1965. One of two publications that catered to the Powersports industry, it remained in print until 2015 when the last episode was mailed to dealers. In 2016 Bob Althoff purchased the old DealerNews assets from Advanstar and worked to bring the magazine back to life.

DealerNews represents itself as a resource that is “of the dealer, by the dealer, for the dealer”. In keeping with these values, Bob has assembled a team of top operators from the industry who guide the direction of each issue.

While I’m not a contributor to DealerNews, I enjoy reading each issue. The editors understand the powersports industry, and the content of each issue is relevant to the times.

While our Industry does not have a National Dealer Association, we would benefit from one. Powersports OEMs have a group (the MIC) to represent and guide their interests, but dealers are only represented by some fragmented State organizations. The January 2021 issue of DealerNews digs into the pros and cons of a National Powersports Dealer Association.

The manufacturers benefit from dealers not speaking with a unified voice. I’m hoping this effort gains some traction and that at some point in the future we will have a national body to represent our interests.
