NPDA – National Powersports Dealer Association

The NPDA is in its infancy, but intends to help strengthen and promote not only Powersports dealers but the entire powersports industry. At one point, there were many state dealer associations, but most of those shut down as the OG dealers retired out of the industry. The NPDA has a goal of helping to resurrect these organizations by offering a template for their formation.

The National Powersports Dealer Association (NPDA), was founded in 2021 to help the franchised and independent powersports dealer through special services, products, programs, education, and advocacy of dealer views and concerns to create a professional, successful, and profitable industry.

Many dealers don’t realize that the OEMs spend millions of dollars each year in their efforts to weaken dealer franchise protections. A state dealer organization is one of the few ways that dealers can combat these actions. Strong franchise protections can also increase the value of a dealership when/if it goes up for sale. In states where OEMs can’t set up points on top of each other, and where they can’t sell directly to consumers, dealerships can be valued at a higher multiple than in states where none of these protections exist.

Recently, I was selected to join the NPDA board. With just a few months under my belt, I’ve led the charge for the organization to tackle the scourge of OEM vehicle surcharges, and worked with leadership to add a feature to the NPDA website where dealers can submit topics and issues that they would like the organization to focus on.

The NPDA has a lot of work ahead of us, but there is some real talent on the board, and if we all work together then we can ensure that our industry will remain strong for years to come.
