It’s hard to stress the importance of maintaining ownership of all your digital assets. Many powersports dealerships have not had a clear strategy for entering the digital marketplace, letting staff members handle some of that work, and a myriad of companies taking on other projects for them.
When I tell you to own your brand, here is what I mean.
– Own your domain name. While most of you contract out your websites, the ownership of your website domain name should always remain in your hands.
– Own the primary accounts for your social media profiles. Even if you don’t like social media, make sure that you are the manager of any accounts representing your brand. If you want to allow other people to post to those accounts, then provide them access, but never let an employee own the account.
– Own your email accounts. Website providers offer email accounts, but there are a multitude of reasons why you shouldn’t use them. Set up an Office 365 or G-Suite account, and own it. Delegate access out to those who need it.
– Own your Google Business Place profile. This is the second most important site for you, be sure you maintain control over it.
Don’t let anyone hold you hostage.
