Statue holding the scales of justice

I just got back from our dealership in TX. While our County has a mask ordinance, there is no fine for individuals who don’t comply, but a $1000 fine for the business for not enforcing compliance. We average 3 belligerent customers a day who either begrudgingly comply, or are ejected from the premises (and they always were just about to pay cash for the most expensive machine on our showroom – funny how that works).

Regardless of your feelings on wearing a mask, limiting showroom density, and other safety measures, if you don’t want to end up in court then you need a plan. Currently, there is no federal safe harbor to prevent business from being sued when either their customers or employees contract COVID. If we had a safe harbor, then businesses who followed a set of safety guidelines wouldn’t end up having to defend our practices, but Congress is busy doing other meaningless tasks.

Personally, I’m not that worried about contracting COVID. I’m at peace with my mortality (have been since I crossed the border into Iraq) but what I don’t want to do is to get anyone else sick.

If you think the last 90 days has been tough, you’ll have a rude awakening when one of your employees or customers succumbs to COVID.
