MRAA Pricing Research

I’ve been shopping powersports, marine and RV dealers for years and providing feedback on the experience. One of my peeves is vehicle listings that don’t show a price. When I bring it up with dealers, I get the same list of excuses:

– We want the customer to call us
– The customer will just take the price to the competitor
– The OEM has uncompetitive MAP pricing

My standard response is “That’s all BS”.

One of the RV dealers I work with is located in a competitive market. They have prices on every vehicle on their website, and when a customer emails asking for an out the door price they give it to them. This dealer dominates their market, and has one of the highest margins in their 20 Group.

Last week I attended the MRAA’s inaugural Marine Week in Tampa. One of the presentations was from Dr. Thomas Dammrich, DBA discussing some research he has been doing on this subject. Everything he said backs up what I’ve been saying for years.

Today’s customers have access to incredible amounts of information and they want to work with honest and transparent dealers.

What excuses do you have for not displaying a price?

If you choose to not put prices on your online vehicle listings, you probably don’t even need a website!
