Since the start of this little pandemic, each day I talk to a dozen or more dealers. From the west coast to the east and from southern Florida all the way up to the northern edge of Canada. Two types of dealers are emerging from the rubble.

1 – The dealers who have thrown in the towel. Not only have they given up on themselves, they have also managed to fail their employees. Talking to one of these dealers will suck the life out of you.
2 – The dealers who are making it work. Each morning they wake up and are energized to think about how they will overcome that day’s challenges. Talking to these dealers makes me wish I was back at the dealership.

What are the successful dealers doing?
– Checking any negativity at the door
– Effectively communicating with their employees
– Adapting to the daily challenges and operating at the limits of their local conditions
– Offering excellent service to their customers including options for complimentary vehicle pick up and delivery
– Following up on internet leads within minutes
– Leading by example, staying involved with the process, and supporting the team at all levels.

When this is done, there will be winners and losers.
