Chart showing popularity of motorcycling in each State

I thought this was a neat infographic from MotorcycleRoads.com . Personally, I’m still long on the motorcycle industry (I wouldn’t be personally invested in a dealership if I wasn’t), although I still believe we have too many dealers and too many OEMs to meet the current demands in the United States. A reduction in both would lead to a healthier industry and better dealers.

When discussing this data with a couple of dealers I found that some of the dealers in the States where ownership levels were low used this data to justify not putting much effort into the 2-wheeled segment. To me, I just see this as an opportunity to sell more bikes.

What does this data mean to you? Why do you think that there is a ten-fold difference between the States with the lowest and the highest ownership levels? Is it the dealers, the customers, or the riding areas?
