Sign saying "cone in we're open"

The RV and Marine industries are ramping up, with one of the largest (and in my opinion best managed) Boat dealers changing hands a couple of weeks ago, and plenty of RV stores finding new owners at the helm. While there are a few organizations buying Powersports dealers, most of them focus on regional opportunities.

Why is this? A lot of it comes down to the return on the investment. While profitability has seen a dramatic rise during the pandemic, it’s uncertain if this will last. During more normal times, a good CD often offered a better return than most motorcycle dealerships, with much less risk.

Unfortunately, for powersports dealers, we still operate in a fractured industry. Many of our vendors make significantly more money in other areas of their business (Suzuki or Honda are car companies that just happen to make a few motorcycles on the side). They have no desire or need to work with other OEMs to improve the industry. And for dealers, we have no national organization that stands up for our rights. Because of all these reasons, most of the value of our businesses is in the property and the buildings, not in the products we sell.

Sad!

There are willing sellers of powersports dealerships, but why are there no buyers?
