The other day I emailed one of my 20 Groups. All of the return emails from one dealer ended up in my spam folder, and that got me to looking for a reason. Turns out this one dealer uses the free email package that comes with their powersports website (not saying any names, I’m already on enough black lists). That’s the root cause of the problem.

Spam filters look at a lot more than your domain name, they also look at the IP address of the server that the email originated from. The server that hosts your email could be the same one that 200 other dealers are using. If they send out a bunch of spammy email and newsletters, because you share a server, you also get penalized.

If you want ensure the best throughput of your emails, then move to a company that specializes in email. Google and Microsoft both offer private label email solutions. While they might be a little more expensive than the program you are using, they typically offer enough additional features to easily offset the cost. They also still work when your website goes down.
