At most 20 Group meetings there is usually one dealer who had a bad month and often times they blame it on an internet outage. Almost every major facet of our business happens over the internet. DMS, website, credit card processing, finance applications, bill pay, etc.
While most of the internet providers offer “business class” service with 99.xxxx uptime guarantees, usually there is nothing backing up that guarantee. If your internet is even out for an hour, what does that cost your business? Did you know that your internet connection doesn’t have to go down for you to lose access to entire sections of the internet? Because of its construction, it’s possible that you might be able to access your email, but not your DMS.
There is a simple e solution to this problem. Purchase a router that has a failover option. We utilize a Cradlepoint AER2200 router. Our primary connection is fiber and our backup is 4G. If our internet goes down the system automatically activates the 4G connection. It happens so fast that our staff don’t even notice the transition, and it’s been over 5 years since we last had our outage.
